The law protects the relationship between a psychologist and client, and information cannot be disclosed without written permission. In certain circumstances, I am required by law to release personal information to third parties due to search warrant, subpoena, or a court order.

As a California mandated reporter, I am also required by law to immediately report the following to the appropriate authorities:

• Suspected child abuse or dependent adult abuse.
• A client threatening serious bodily harm to another person.
• A client intends to harm himself or herself.
